So what do
you need for your special event? Well, wherever you are going,
the first thing you must do is check out the dress code - you
don't want to turn up in a morning suit if everyone else is
wearing an evening suit! There are some ideas on this page, but
your retailer will be the best person to advise on what is
suitable for various events. Pictured above are the traditional
black dinner suit with black bow tie, a white tuxedo with fancy
waistcoat, and a black tailcoat with white marcella shirt,
matching waistcoat and bow tie. |

For a school
prom, consider the single breasted dinner suit, with a bow tie
and matching cummerbund, as shown on the left.
To the right
is a black evening tailcoat with black dress trousers. This is
usually worn with a white marcella shirt, waistcoat and matching
white marcella bow tie. In this picture, the model is also wearing a white silk
scarf, and is carrying a black top hat and cane. Looks really
cool......if you think you can carry it off! |

Black
dinner suits can look quite different when worn with a brightly
coloured waistcoat and a contrasting ruche as shown below. Also
shown below are Nouveau jackets in either black or cream - and
these are sometimes worn with a euro tie (as shown) or with a
Nehru collar shirt and stud in place of a tie. |

For
something really different, you could always try a kilt! If
you've got the legs for it, you could look fantastic - and you
don't have to be Scottish either - anyone can wear one -
provided they are cool enough to carry it off !

A note for
the ladies:
If you are left to sort out your man's formal wear for him (it
does happen!), here are just four simple steps to make him into
the man of your dreams:
1. Have a
good look at the pictures above, and decide how you want him to
look.
2. Tell him that you cannot resist a man in a suit, and you go
weak at the knees at just the thought of seeing him all dressed
up.
3. Use the links above to find your nearest specialist menswear
formal wear hire shop.
4. Point him in the right direction! In fact, go with him, and
make sure he orders just what you want! |
